Taco-Tuesday Fiesta Themed Picnic Date Night - All Dressed Up

Taco-Tuesday Fiesta Themed Picnic Date Night

Brian and I tend to be on opposite schedules during the weekends, so we try to always make time for date nights during the week when things are a little less hectic. We absolutely LOVE Mexican food, so we also always try to celebrate Taco-Tuesday when we can. This week, I decided to go all out and make our Taco-Tuesday date night a fiesta themed picnic!

Liz of Charleston Weekender had gifted me this gold pineapple tumbler, these Suite33 cocktail napkins, and these absolutely adorable gold paper pineapple plates as a thank you for interning for her this summer (she's absolutely the sweetest) and I had been dying to use them! When the idea for a taco-tuesday date night struck, I knew they would be perfect!

I had also recently bought this 'Cheers!', 'Salut!' Kate Spade drinkware set for the bar cart, so all that was left to find was a tablecloth, matching plates, and picnic-ready gold plastic forks and gold paper straws. Luckily, Bed Bath and Beyond had both this perfect outdoor printed tablecloth and these patterned plates! And, luckily Target had these gold paper straws and Party City had these gold plastic forks. I loved the idea of both bright and soft blues with blush pink and gold as the color scheme and knew mixing patterns would perfectly represent the fiesta theme.

Next, food and drink! We kept things simple by making basic tacos (meat, cheese, lettuce, soft tortillas) paired with Chobani Mezè Dips 3-pepper salsa, and our favorite sparkling lemonade (see our other picnic post here- sparkling lemonade included. Definitely a picnic must-have!). We loved Chobani's Mezè dip because it was easy to transport, easy to eat at the picnic/the perfect side to have with our tacos and easy to take home the leftovers thanks to the lid it comes with!

Next, what to wear... I love any excuse to put on a long, pretty dress and knew when I saw this one from Green Dragon Clothing that it would be perfect with the theme and for our date night. I especially love the split leg detail! As for accessories, this tote from Collectively Kate doubled as an adorable accessory and as a way to transport everything- plates, napkins, cups, ect. to and from the park!

Kate (the founder of Collectively Kate) and one of my sweetest, closest friends, recently got married -yay!- and gave these personalized totes to all of us as bridesmaid gifts. I absolutely love every time I get to use it (which is often), and I'm so glad it fit in so well and was so useful for our picnic! I'm such a sucker for calligraphy, monograms and tote bags so as you can imagine, this bag is just my all-time favorite.

All in all, our Taco-Tuesday fiesta themed date night was a success! The food was delicious, it was a gorgeous night, and all of the colors and patterns looked great under the soft light of magic hour. We absolutely can't wait to plan another date night theme (maybe not another picnic, but no promises. We definitely love them) and continue to find fun ways to celebrate Taco-Tuesday!

Lastly, here are some tips on how to plan a great, laid back, impromptu (and low-cost!) themed date night!

1. Pick a theme.
2. Pick a color scheme.
3. See what you already have around the house that will work!
4. Make a list of everything that you don't have and will need.
5. To keep things simple and under budget, opt for low cost options like plates you can buy individually vs. in a set, plastic metallic utensils, and don't be afraid to try a DIY or two!
6. Organize your ideas into a secret Pinterest board. Seriously, Pinterest is how I plan anything and everything.
7. Do a test run! Lay everything out beforehand to see how it looks together, and to see if there are any details or items you should add or subtract.
8. If you're loven' it, then there you go! Sit back and enjoy the night!
