Summer Stripes at Boone Hall Plantation - All Dressed Up

Summer Stripes at Boone Hall Plantation

Last weekend my extended family was in town, and it was their first time ever in Charleston! I love whenever we have company because it gives me more of an excuse to do fun, touristy things on weekdays (hah). Boone Hall was their #1 request and it was such a great day spent exploring under the gorgeous oak trees!

I had been to Boone Hall only one other time before, and it was before we lived here. I was in high school, and remember loving it but I didn't have quite the appreciation for the gorgeous backdrop that is the stables and towering row of oak trees covered in spanish moss that I do now. And, funny story, the only real reason I had begged my parents to make time for it on our vacation was because I had Googled all of the Notebook filming spots and saw that it was part of the movie.

But, going back, it's easy to see why it was the perfect location for the movie. Every view of the plantation is picture-perfect; The row of oak trees, the mansion, the gardens, the view of the river... breathtaking.

The best part of the day was encountering the horses; Especially this adorable baby! My grandparents lived on a few acres of land while I was growing up and had stables with horses they would let me ride and feed whenever I was over (which was always because they had horses) so I have always had such a love for them.

It was a great day, but guys... it was hot. If I have one tip to give you for visiting Boone Hall in the summer, it's head the the gift shop and get some ice cream. It's right next to where the trucks load up for the grounds tour, so make sure to get some beforehand! That scoop of ice cream plus the breeze from the drive during the tour was a much needed break from the heat before we walked down to the cotton dock! Which also of course was gorgeous and I definitely recommend doing!

What also helped with the heat was this striped swing dress! My favorite thing about it is that it's great for summer, but can easily be a transitional piece for fall. Just throw on a pair of booties and a scarf! But the best, best part is that it's on sale for under $40 right now!

My favorite summer heat styling trick is that a great sun hat goes well with just about anything and it's perfect for a) bad hair days and b) when you know you'll be outside and no amount of hair spray will save your curls from the heat and humidity c) when your spf foundation sweats off, no sunburn!

Do you all have a favorite summer heat styling trick? Have you been to Boone Hall before? Be sure to shop this look linked below, as well as comment with your answers! Hope you all are having a great week so far!
